I'm looking to update my late-2013 iMac 3.4GHz i5 8GB Ram, 2GB VRAM with something more powerful for video editing. I recently got a GoPro Hero 5 Black and have been getting the spinning beachball while trying to work with my footage on my iMac. Now that Apple has updated the iMacs, I was looking at a new i7 27" iMac config or I can also get a 6 core 2013 Mac Pro for around the same money in the refurbished store. Which one would be better? Thanks for any advice.

I would go with the fresh iMac. Mac Pro is overpriced and hasn't been updated in years.

The 7700k in the new iMac will nearly equal the multi-core performance of the Xeon in the 2013 MP. It will destroy it in single-core performance. Of course, this is based on cooling being sufficient. The MP has little to recommend it at this point—certainly not the processor.

Ultimately, it will come down to the software you are using. Will it benefit from the D500s in the MP? It remains to be seen how the "Pro" 570, 575, 580 perform. It's unlikely to outclass dual GPUs, even ones from 2011-12

Do you have a suitable external monitor?

If not, I'd say go iMac.
