I currently have 2 external HD's. One is 500gb that I currently use for time machine but it is very close to running out of space. I would like to replace it with another external HD I have that is 1 TB but I happen to have close to 400gb of windows stuff on it already that I need to keep.

I could copy the 500gb to a DVD but file permissions always get screwy?

If I winged it, I could just connect both drives, format the 500gb to NTFS and then copy everything from the 1TB to it. Then format the 1 TB to be used with Time Machine and do a backup. Seems easy but probably not the most responsible way as I fear if a file were to be corrupt durinf transfers, I'd never get it back.

Any opinions? Thoughts? Tried and true methods?

Thanks,
