On my cover flow I have multiple album art of the same albums. How do I fix that? It's kinda annoying... lol

thanks

OK, here's a fix that works for me...

1) Select all songs from the album (ie. all songs that should be under one cover, but are appearing under multiple ones.)
2) Get info (right/ctrl-click on the selected songs, get info or cmd-i)
3) Change the 'artist' and 'album artist' fields slightly. e.g change "The Cramps" to "The Cramps2".
4) Click OK
5) You should now have all your tracks under 1 cover
6) Get info again
7) Change the 'artist' and 'album artist' back to the correct name (get rid of the '2' in the example above)

Hope this helps.

Thanks that worked.

Glad I'm not the only affected. It's very annoying. I use to select every file, get info, and mark them as a recopilation. It works but if you sort your library by "Album by artist" it takes the recopilations to the end and it may not be what you want...

RichyHo, while your post may be valid for single-artist albums, there is still the issue of multi-artist compilations. :(

This is no big issue or mystery. What it actually is you may have the artist and album and all that other stuff the same but what you have is different album art. They may look identical but they are not. Here is your fix. Pick one of the songs from said album and copy the album art from the info. Now select all the song in that album and get info. Now copy that album art into the album art field for all of them and make sure you have all the rest of the info the same also. This will make that alllll go away. Once I figured this problem out I would say about 15% of a 150 gb music collection was plagued with this. Now I have not a single duplicate album show up on :apple:TV, coverflow, ipods or my iPhone.

Just set the "Artist" the actual song artist and the "Album Artist" to "Various Artists" or some other thing you prefer. So long as the Artist and/or Album Artist matches, and the Album matches, iTunes will recognize them as being from the same album and merge them together in cover flow and album listings.

You also must use the same exact Album art. (ie same exact image file)

Right, that's true too. If you've ended up with different album art for the songs, you can copy the art from the info screen and then select all the songs at once and paste it to the album art box in the multi-edit info screen.

That's all fine and Dandy but what about those of us who cringe at the annoyance of not being able to sort my Various Artists albums by Artist in my IPOD. I have a 2 CD set with multiple artists and I prefer keep the artists names in the Artist field though unfortunately the Cover Flow feature in Itunes shows a separate album for every single artists. Really frustrating because if you right click within the Cover Flow window and set the Change Sort option to sort by "Album", why does it still separate each individual track by the artist name listed in the artist field. I hope that there is a solution out there that would allow me to keep the artists names listed in the artist field and view these by Album. I enjoy flipping through my music via the Awesome Cover Flow feature that Itunes has to offer. Though if I have 18 tracks on 1 CD and have to flip through 18 Album Covers in Cover Flow when it should only be 1 it gets annoying.

Thanx for the any Help!

Thank you SO much for this tip! I had tried everything for a couple albums that just refused to be seen as one, and this trick is the only thing that worked! Thanks again!

what i do is:

  1. select the songs
  2. get song info (Cmd+i)
  3. make the compilation field: Yes (it's in the bottom left corner)

this lets you keep your artists different

OK. I just imported my CD "Matchbox Twenty - Exile On Mainstream". When I try to get the album artwork it doesnt find it. However when you click the song link to take you to iTunes it goes to the correct song. Why isn't it downloading the artwork?

I've often found that simply doing the multiple song select and get info, then just changing the Album Artist field for all songs, fixes this problem as well.

This worked great, I tried all of the techniques listed here and my one AC/DC set wouldn't take but making sure the Artist and Album Artist are check and the same....that seems to work every time.

Annoying Duplicating Album Artwork on Coverflow

I had the same problem with the compilations (even with the Yes box checked.) So I tried the advice above and that didn't always work (repasting the cover art to a range of tracks).

What finally worked for me was selecting the same range in the compilation and re-entering the ablum name. The annoying thing is:

1. When I initially imported the album into itunes, I renamed the same range of tracks so the album name would be uniform (and recognized as one album).
2. When I pressed entered, it asked me if i was sure I wanted to change the information for multiple albums--this was all one album, imported and renamed by me, but still recognized by itunes as different albums.
3. Went back to itunes and it looked like it was all one album until I got the duplicating artwork in coverflow.
4. Tried repasting the album art to the same range of tracks (using getinfo for multiple tracks) (and yes, using the same folder.jpg). Didn't work.
5. Renamed Album using get info for the same range of tracks--this Finally worked.

Now, If i have to go back and do this every single time the artwork duplicates, it's going to be a huge waste of time.

Especially considering, once I transfer the music to my ipod roughly 50-70% of the artwork doesn't display anyway (not matter how many faq's and forums i've researched--there doesn't seem to be a good solve for this).

SO--does anyone have any advice...or is this a case of me having to upgrade my OS so I can use sonbgbird? (yes the cover art issue is THAT annoying)

Thanks for any help/insight.

One album - multiple artworks

So I still have this issue. I have quite a few albums that show up multiple times in cover flow.
Check out this screen shot.
http://www.linuxpeer.net/picture1.png

I do select all the tracks in the album. Set artist and set album, so i know that the album and artist are the same for all tracks. Compilation is also set to YES.
I reapplied the artwork so artwork is the same for all tracks.

They still show up multiple times.

Anyone?

Fixed it!!!! Something was different in the Album Artist field. Selecting all of them and simply checking Album Artist, thus populating it with an empty value, puts them under the same artwork.

forgive me if i posted this wrong, been so very frustrated with technology lately.
I can't seem to figure out how to get an artist to stay under one album. i have tried naming each artist and album one by one, I know tell me about it. then i tried the get info approach and that did'nt work either, on a previous thread i saw where i should check the album artist box, again a failed attempt.
i just got my classic black 80g and i don't even want to pick it up because of how annoying it is to figure out what song is under what album even if it is under the same album.

Help!

Yep, that FINALLY put all of my OC Remix songs under the same album artwork. Weird thing is that I never had anything in the album artist field, not even a space. Oh well, this worked fine, thanks!

easy fix for multiple album cover in coverflow problem

this is for if you, if you know your tags are right and suddenly
the problem occurs.

close iTunes
copy ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music to a backup folder
delete ~/Music/iTunes folder
open iTunes
drag iTunes Music folder onto iTunes to reimport

p.s. for people with more music than they can actually listen to,
and no space to back it up. perhaps you could move your iTunes
music folder and change settings to not allow iTunes to organize,
then re-import. good luck.

You need to have an account on the iTunes server in order for iTunes to automatically update and change your album's cover art.

There's also a nice little widget (for Apple users only of course) that will seek out album artwork from the Amazon.com website and then apply it to your iTunes library. I found it last week in the music widgets section of Apple's download center. I finally got album art for those last few albums that iTunes still doesn't carry.

And the way to fix the multiple album artwork dilema for various artist albums is to highlight the entire album, ctrl+click and select get info, enter "various" into the album artist field and make sure the album box is checked.

Works every time!

I Know Exactly What The Problem Is

Its to do with the artists. If you have more than one different artists then they show up multiply. What you do is you change all the artists on one album to ' Various Artists' and put the artists name in the title box if you want. I had this problem too.
