i just got the new macbook five days ago and from the moment that i took it out of the box i've had difficulty connecting to the internet.
at first i thought it was my router so i called the router company and asked them to walk me through the set up. and it seemed okay after that but within ten minutes it wouldn't let me connect. so i called the cable company and they said my internet was fine. so i had my boyfriend bring his computer over to my house and it connected and loaded faster than at his house.
so i started going to various places in my town that offer free wifi. all of the places didn't throw me off but my pages would load like dial-up taking up to a couple minutes show pages.
so finally i called apple. and they had me do their list of troubleshooting and played musical transfer with me over a course of three days i talked to three general specialists, two wireless, one macbook, and one senior engineer. nothing that any of them suggested worked. so they told me to go into best buy where i bought it and exchange it because it seemed like airport card was defective. it recognizes the strength of the wifi, but it can't seem to utilize it. so i drove fifty miles to the best buy i bought it at and it worked there! it loaded pages like it was supposed to and not once did it have a problem. so the apple sales man told the exchange guy that if they gave me a new one i would just bring it back and complain and that i most likely had my router connected wrong. so they told me if i wanted a different one i had to pay 15% of $1,300. so i went back home and took it to my school's i.t. department and they told me that they think that there is something wrong with my antenna because it drops my signal if i'm not extremely close to the router there.
what could this problem be?
what would you do?
should i just return it or is best buy right and i will have the exact same problem if i get a new one?
if it helps best buy is in a big city and i like in a town with a population of 40,000.
the only way that i can get a good connection is ethernet.
