helping a friend out. no backup, no sync, nothing....phone went out for a logic board repair/ipsw. file to be handed back to him

I can either take the ipsw and then use any trans to help extract "just text, contacts and photos"
And then move them to the new phone which has 2 weeks of text, contacts and photos...

OR on current new phone, which has text, contacts and photos now currently set to sync to iCloud
Restore the new phone with the *data recovery ipsw* and then let iCloud bring back down the (2 week old text , photos , etc)

I have not done data extraction off a IPSW but years ago, I have used a similar software when moving stuff from Android to iPhone and the process took forever.... I'm not sure is using any trans and doing said (extraction from a ipsw file) to dump it back will just be as -abysmally slow and tedious).
