Help me playing movies.

Hey,

Im pretty clueless about computers but I have managed to learn a few things and I have downloaded some movies. However that are in avi and Mp4 format and the software I have wont play them. I have downloaded things such as Perian and another thing but neither work. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong

Tried that, downloaded it and when I try to open it it just opens in a text box.

Sounds like your files are corrupted then.

Great that was a waste of 1/5th of my download limit for the month.

I dont think thats either because I have now tried it was 7 files and it wont open anything.

Yeah, vlc plays practically everything, so it's more likely that something is wrong with your files. Do you have a movie that you know has worked before that you could test with to see that the program is working correctly? Barring a bad installation, something's probably wrong with your files if they aren't playing.

Did u try right click on the file, then select play with ~> choose VLC or u just double click the file
