Hello.

I have my iPhone set not to install or even download new updates, unless I do it manually.

However, starting in late iOS 17 cycle, whenever there’s a new update, even if it’s a minor update, the phone interrupts me showing me a notification once or twice per day, prompting me to update. Yeah, even with the automatic install or download updates disabled.

Is there a way to prevent this notifications from appearing? I haven’t found them in the notifications section in settings.

I know some people install a tvOS beta configuration profile, but on one hand Apple doesn’t provide this profiles anymore, and on the other, I don’t trust the profiles you can find in cydia or betaprofiles websites, as I suspect they have been modified in some way.

Is there a way to stop this annoying notifications from appearing on my iPhone and iPad?

If the beta profile is the only way: Is there a way to get the tvOS 18 beta configuration profile from Apple servers? I’ve logged into the Apple Developer’s site, and apparently there aren’t configuration profiles anymore, just the IPSW. So I’m not sure where to get them from Apple’s servers.

Thank you.

Downloading iOS updates but not installing them stopped the notifications for me, but you'll still get the "1" bubble on the settings icon.

I don’t want to download the updates, first because they take space from my storage, and second (and most importantly) because I run the risk of hitting “update” without noticing it.

I simply switched updates to the iOS 17 beta channel and the annoyance stopped.
Thank you, I will try this, if it’s possible to do in iOS 18.

Nope, I cannot do that. In the beta channel I just see iOS 18 public beta and developer beta. No trace of iOS 17 beta channels.

I have the same question. This didn’t happen on my iPad Air 5 on iPadOS 15. iPhone 16 Plus and iPad 11th-gen on iOS and iPadOS 18? I’m getting pretty persistent notifications even with everything disabled. It’s annoying.

Ah, you already are on iOS 18 then!
I'm still on 17.7.2 and activated the 17 beta channel to get rid of the permanent nagging to install iOS 18.

Yeah, even when you’re on iOS 18, let’s say, iOS 18.3.1, you’re still getting periodic notifications to install iOS 18.4.1, both on iOS and iPadOS. Annoying.

I installed a tvOS 18 beta profile on the iPhone and iPad. Consequently no compatible updates can be found and no notifications appear.
From time to time I manually install the full ipsw via iTunes (like today, the hopefully mature iOS/iPadOS 18.4.1).

Yeah but the problem with all those sketchy websites where you download the beta profile from, is that you don’t really know if you’re installing a modified version of the beta profile, and what have they modified in it.

That’s why I was asking if there’s a way to download the beta profile from Apple’s servers.

Sorry, I missed to address this.
I'm no expert but in the previously linked profile, I see nothing alarming.
The main point is to redirect the "MobileAssetServerURL" to "https://mesu.apple.com/assets/tvOS18DeveloperSeed".
I don't know how to self-sign the profile - perhaps others do.

@Populus

Thank you for starting this thread. I have the exact same situation! (Also on IOS 18, also only have updates done manually). I used to sometimes get a reminder or two, but I would dismiss them and they would stop. Now it's like 15-30 reminders a day, and I'm constantly having to shoo them away just so I can use my phone. Arghhhh!

To be fair security is already a bit out of the window when you don't install updates after Apple has publicly revealed exploits they have patched.
