Hello Apple Collectors community,

I am having an issue with a LaserWriter 4/600 that I have managed to keep working all these years until about a month ago.

I think that there may be a problem with the gear assembly that drives the paper pickup. But I am not sure how to describe this issue so I made a video describing the problem in more deal and show the symptoms that I am getting.

Any Ideas

Cheers :)

IIRC, the gear on the main motor shaft splits and no longer drives the gear train.

A replacement can be pushed onto the shaft. Here is a source of the gear - NOTE - this is in no way an endorsement of the seller:

See page 125 of http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/misc/plw_300.320_lw_4.600_ps.pdf for the location of the motor.

Follow the procedures for removing the cover and IO board.

The old gear should easily come off the motor shaft - simply push the new gear on until it is flush with the shaft end.

I appreciate it. I have gone ahead and purchased the gear and on my next free weekend will swap it out. If it ends up working I'll post the result. :)
