Hello, I want to know if PS3/PS4/PS5 Arcade stick controllers like the ones HORI makes will work on my macbook macOS big sur?

I want to play games with an arcade stick but I'm not sure which one to get or which one works on macOS.. I was looking at the 8bitdo Arcade Stick but it says it only works on Windows and Switch. I'm not sure if there's some sort of adaptor to make it work on mac.

If anyone knows or can help please I would appreciate it greatly!

I don't see why a Hori Fightstick wouldn't work. It is just a controller without the analog joysticks and triggers. It really depends on what the game you are playing is expecting.

A proper modern USB or Bluetooth controller should support HID. A controller that supports HID won't need a driver. If the controller doesn't support HID and doesn't come with a driver, then it won't work.

ControllerMate was good at working with HID (convert buttons to key presses, or mouse clicks, or whatever, etc) but it hasn't been updated for Catalina. Some functions still work though. I can connect a PlayStation 4 controller and it will show all the buttons and axis (analog or otherwise).

Many games should be able to work with HID directly. You might have to manually assign buttons and axis if the game doesn't know the layout of the controller.

I have a SideWinder 3D Pro ADB joystick (made for old Macs). I made a Mac OS X driver for the iMate ADB to USB adapter and another driver for the joystick which converted the ADB input to HID. I'm not sure if I finished it or not. One thing I had to do was make the ADB controller hot pluggable because USB is hot pluggable.

Anyway, for a USB joystick that doesn't support HID, a driver can be made to convert the proprietary USB interface to HID.

So does the 8BITDo Arcade Stick work on macOS then? Cause it is the only controller on their website that doesn’t mention macOS support?

Can you link me to a couple high quality arcade sticks that would work on macOS? I’m a bit confused now. Thanks for all the help so far though!

I want to play Spelunky/2D platformer (2D games) but it seems all the arcade sticks mention windows and not macOS?
