Hello all!
I just purchased a refurb imac and it'll be here saturday. I need to hammer out my storage setup and need your help. I used to just run a windows server but I'm trying to cut down on the number of machines I need to have running so I just bought a promise 4 bay nas. I already own 5 1TB seagate drives and 4 500gig Samsung drives and the imac is coming with an internal 500gig drive
Here's my initial plan:
4 1tb drives in Promise nas holding my music library, lightroom photo collection, videos, and personal documents.
1 1Tb drive in a external enclosure hooked up directly to the mac for time machine backups
2 500gig drives in a dlink 2 bay nas to backup my photo collection off the 4 bay nas
2 500gig drives in another dlink 2bay nas to backup everything else
I know this sounds like alot of redundancy but I already own all the drives and most of the nas boxes. I just need one more dlink nas to finish my setup.
Anyone have any better idea to do without outlaying much money since I already own almost everything I have here.
I think I"m going to upload my photo collection to amazon's S3 storage too for peace of mind.
Thanks
Zack
