help! my 1394 HD won't mount!

i picked up a maxtor 160 GB external hard drive. It mounts fine on my powerbook running panther, but it will not mount on my G4 tower running jaguar and os/9. i just reloaded the operating systems on the tower as well, and the hd still won't show up on the desktop.

anyone know what I should do first?

1: try another firewire device to see if ports are working

2: check in Disk Utility to see if it shows up. If it does, check your finder preferences to see if hard disks are checked to show on the desktop.
