Help My Mac Book will not go past the grey screen with apple logo and swirling circle

I have a 2011 Mac Book Air it froze one night so i held down the power button and turned it off the next day when i tried to turn it on i just got the grey screen with the apple logo and the spinning wheel. i tried starting in safe mode nothing and tried the contril + command + p+r thing and still nothing i bought thev computer off craigslist over a year and a half ago so i have nothing that came with it originally only a charger please help !!!!!!

now i tried holding down command + s while it powers on but i dont see a "# command" prompt the last line says "AppleMCP89TMS::powerGatingDown(0): Done
