My 2008 2.8 octo wont start. Been having sleep problems which seem to be getting worse the longer I leave the MP in sleep mode. Put the machine to sleep 10 hours ago and is now completely unresponsive.

- Unplugged all leads to reset SMC.
- Started up with only keyboard/mouse and both ACDs attached.
- Removed all OWC memory leaving just the 2x 1gb apple ram.
- No start up chime so cant reset PRAM.
- Power light comes on and can hear a few very quiet wirring and ticking noises so assume HD is trying to do something. Fans come on also.
- Router light for this machine comes on but stays orange just like when its asleep.

Not able to use start up disk because drive tray wont open. Is there a way to open tray when machine is for all intents and purposes switched off.

I am assuming the worst. Anybody got any other suggestions.:(:(:(

I agree with the suggestion to involve Apple. In the mean time,

Is there a way to open tray when machine is for all intents and purposes switched off.

You can pull down the drive access door and use a straightened paperclip in the manual drive eject hole to open the drive. You may also be able to reach the eject button (it's there, really) but on mine it's behind the mechanism that opens the metal drive door on the MP case.
