It happed twice with my new macbook which I bought a month ago and updated to Leopard two weeks ago. After I click shut down, it closes all applications and the rotating ball shows up, as usual. Then nothing happens except that the ball keeps rotating all the time. I have to shut it down by pushing the power button. What is wrong!? Can you guys help me out?

It sounds to me like one of your processes are refusing to quit at shutdown. Try opening activity monitor and quitting individual processes under My processes one at a time this may give you some idea about the rogue app. You could also try opening the console, if it quickly fills up with error messages that may also point you in the right direction. I wouldn't mind betting its a widget as a lot of them are not playing nicely with Leopard at the moment
