Help: My notebook won't shutdown/restart...

Hey after downloading/installing
-Apple Remote Desktop 3.2.2 Client Update
-Front Row update
-Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2
-Digi Cam Raw Compatibility Update 2

I went to restart my MBpro and nothing happened.. about 10 min later it said "couldn't restart b/c the application finder refused to quit"

I tried to manuelly restart it and then it said, "couldn't restart... preview refused to quit" -- but was never open?

I don't get it?

MacOSX 10.5.5, 2.4 Core 2 Duo

try force quiting finder. as for preview, i dont know.
