HELP My Ringer and other sounds will not work BUT i can hear and make calls just fine

This is the second time my phone has had problems. At night i turn off my sounds and then back on each morning. For the second time all my sounds have stopped working -- keyboard, lock sounds, sent mail, calendar, email, text messages and ringer. When i go to settings i can turn the ringer volume up and down and hear it. I can turn text messages alert on and off and choose a sound -- and hear it, none of the other buttons make sound when i turn them on and off AND in practice NONE of the sounds can be heard. Only vibrate alerts me to the fact that i have something going on with my phone. Last time i had to reset and do not want to keep doing that any ideas out there?
