Help,need to know what program I need.

hello, I am a newbie just got my MB 2 days ago love it. But my school send out homework in Microsoft word format can I open these documents (sorry if this is stupid question.) Also homework has to be sent in Word Or RTF format what do I need for this. Thank you I really don't know how to word my question.

Obviously MS Office would work for you, as would iWork. If .rtf files are OK then you could also use TextEdit which is already installed on your computer. The others you'll have to buy.

text edit, pages, or of course MS word will open it and save it out in usable formats

All will open or save into .doc format or RTF format.
