HELP! Need to restore laptop

Here is the deal, i did this before but I forgot how to do it I hope somebody can help refresh my memory. I dont have the restore cd's for my 2008 macbook pro, i am trying to restore it using my Imac. I remember that I had to push i think "N" on my macbook while it is connected via firewire with my imac, but it is not working. What step am I missing?

1. shutdown the mbp
2. start mbp with "T" key held down
