Help needed in finder

I wanted to open up the character pallette to search for a certain character. So I went to edit>view characters, and then it came up with a blank Character Pallette, with the 'loading' icon in the middle. However this keeps on appearing for a few seconds, and then reappearing a few seconds later, and it hasn't stopped.

Can anyone help?

Maybe you could try to delete the file com.apple.CharPaletteServer.plist in /Users/<your username>/Library/Preferences?
