Help needed syncing new iPhone to my Mac

Guys,
I have just switched back to iPhone after having android for just over two years...happy to be back.
The problem I have is that I have a google apps email account, which is syncing perfectly with my iPhone but my apple mail is not seeing anything that I do on my iPhone .i.e. when I delete a mail on my iPhone it still shows up on my Mac as an unread mail
Please can someone point me into the right direction to fix this
