First off this topic has probably been discussed to death over the past month but I am hoping I can squeeze some good advice out of its limp and dying body.

My current machine is the mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro Retina. Exact specs are 2.3ghz Quad Core i7, 16gb ram and a 256gb SSD. A fantastic machine that has served me well however I have been waiting for the recent upgrades for over 2 years so I am eager to do so! However I am a little lost (losing sleep and not eating any food!) with which MacBook Pro to upgrade to. Touch Bar and 16GB of RAM are a given but I am undecided between the base model 15" or a maxed out 13".

How does my current machine compare to the latest MacBook Pros? Would all of the new line up be a significant improvement on my current machine? More specifically how will a dual core i5 on a 13" compare to the quad core i7 I have currently? I am leaning towards a maxed out 13" over the 15" as for work and some day to day stuff I use an external display. The 13" does seem a little small but when it is along side the 15" its the 15" that looks too big.

I am fortunate enough to know a couple of students who can get me some discount so the three models I have narrowed it down to are the entry level 15", the 2.9ghz 13" with 16gb RAM/512gb SSD or the same model with 1TB SSD. Prices are £2276, £1916 and £2240. I don't really perform any processor heavy tasks, play games or do any sort of video editing but I always hate the idea of not been able to do these things if I wanted to. What a dilemma!

Any help of advice is most welcome.
