Hi

My new AirPod Max don't power down when I am not using them.
The battery drains very fast.

I read https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/turn-off-airpods-max/ but it's not working at me.

Well, the truth is that the title of this article is a bit of a misnomer, because Apple hasn't included an on/off function by design. That's right – you can't manually switch off ‌AirPods Max‌. Instead, Apple has built an "ultralow power state" into the headphones that automatically activates under certain conditions.

They still connected to iPhone when in the holder/stand, see picture. The iPhone only 0.5 m away from stand

Thank you

Unfortunately, there is no off switch so the only way they know to turn it off is when you put them in the case.

Apple wanted to make them like every other AirPods so you just pulled them out of the case and put them on. People have resisted this of course because it’s not how they use every other pair of over the ear headphones they have.

Thank you
Where'd you get this stand? There is one I bought on Etsy last year but the catch was that you had to keep a homemade magnet in the Lightning port, if I recall correctly. That magnet would interact with the cradle to put the APM in the correct low power state. The setup bothered me for no good reason, really, but I returned and just use the case.

if I had known that, i wouldn't have bought these things. I'm absolutely disappointed in Apple, that's not possible.
Unless you’re within the return window, it’s really on you for not doing your research. Apple doesn’t hide this, and it’s very easy to put the AirPods back into their case. You can do so and still have it hanging from the stand if you wish.

These headphones have been out since 2020 and while I'm not defending Apple, it's somehow Apple's fault for the consumer to not research what their $549 is paying for?

You need to put them in the case to activate the low power mode immediately. You can still hang them on that stand with the case on.
