Looking for some help... just got a new MB unibody. Tried opening photo files via a card reader to work on Photoshop (I am using Sandisk Extreme iii SDHC 8 GB). Problem is, Finder can "see" the file, including the little preview icon. But when I try to open in Preview or Photoshop, I can only see part of the file (a vertical line). Seems like I don't have "access" to these files (based on the error message, but I am logged in as admin).

I had no problem accessing the photo files via my old white MB.

Anyone run into this problem?

Tks for any input.

are you trying to open the files directly off the card, or moving the files to your computer from the card then trying to open them?

I tried both...

- cannot open photo files directly from cardreader
- tried exporting file to desktop, and does not allow for this as well

It seems that the MacBook does not have access to my SDHC card.

Any advice what I can do?

How old is the card reader?

I know I had problems with my 3 year old card reader reading 2GB SD (not SDHC) cards.

Try a different reader.

The cardreader is about 3 yrs old. I guess I'll try using a new cardreader and see if it works.

The thing is, I have no problem accessing the file using the same cardreader on my white MacBook. Strange.

Update: Went out and got a new card reader and now everything works like a charm. Tks r.j.s. for the advice.

Why won't you give us the brand of your reader? I am planning on buying a SDHC card with the proper reader, and now I have no idea what to buy...

Any recent one will work, and should have an SDHC compatible marking on it.
