The photos (and pictures on the Web) are very dark and colors have shifted. Apple reps have been unable to help. I've returned the display and connected a replacement but same problem. I've switched to Photography (P3-D65) preset but it didn't solve the problem. With more than 7000 Lightroom edits, I'm frantic for help

I don't think it's possible for a display to change any file (including photos) on your Mac, so either what you're seeing is simply the difference in the way the Studio Display displays colors vs. your previous display (on the iMac) or something else is going on. Can you transfer some of these photos back to your iMac and see if they show up normally there?

Check all display setting on your old and new computer and compare, bet you’ll find differences.
I just got a new Studio and Studio display a few weeks ago, came from 2017 27 iMac, have tens of thousands of photos in LR and nothing has changed, neither a display nor a computer (migration) will change LR settings/edits on their own, only user intervention will do that.

Thanks for the suggestion. I transferred the Lightroom portfolio back to the iMac and they showed normal there. I've done this transfer through several iMacs over the years without any issues. You might be right that it is a systemic color display property of the Studio display but it is radical. I wonder if anyone has some re-calibration settings for the display. The Photograph(P3-D65) setting didn't help much. it has a Color Gamut of P3, a Whitepoint of D65 and a Max Luminescence of SDR 160.

Thanks for you suggestion. The iMac has a built in Display Calibrator Assistant but the Studio Display doesn't appear to have that feature. It does allow to set up new profiles for Color Gamet, White Point SDR Transfer function and Maximum Luminescence. Did you have to make any calibration adjustments? The differences in color and brightness are so radical and affect not only LrC photos but those from Apple Photos and picture from the Web. The AppleCare folks don't seem to be able to help with this problem and suggested returning the display and getting a replacement. I did this and the new one showed the same changes. Can you let me know your color profile settings?

On my Studio display I'm using "Apple display (P3-600 nits)", I never calibrated my iMac that I recall, my brightness settings seem slightly higher on the ASD at ~45% whereas on the iMac it was slightly lower at ~ 40%.
I can't really tell noticeable difference between the two, photos locally or web seem no different between iMac and ASD.

If you have a custom profile on the iMac I'd reset that to the defaults (can't remember exactly, Adobe srgb? or was there an Apple profile?)
