Hey all,

Still waiting on Apple having something interesting enough to upgrade to (and hopefully killing off the Touch Bar :-/ ), so chugging along well enough on a 2015 MBP with 16GB RAM and discrete graphics. I'm currently running an LG 34UC87M, which is a QHD curved ultra wide, 3440x1440 resolution, using TB2 from the MBP to a native TB2 input on the display.

It's been an overall solid display, other than the lack of OSX initiated audio and other controls (their joystick scheme is kind of annoying, moreso for input switching when I occasionally plug in the 'official' work laptop/Windows to it), but the biggest annoyance overall has been the vertical resolution, meaning for the work I do and apps and windows I tend to have open concurrently, I'd really prefer a minimum of 1600px resolution vertically.

So, considering I gave myself a birthday present of a not-so-cheap sit-stand home office setup, and I'm not 'jumping' for any of Apples latest MBP updates just yet, I'm considering a display upgrade...but actual confirmation of 'it will i fact run X res over Y connection' is somewhat light. Apple's official page just says can do up to 3840x2166 on two external displays,' while Everymac states "This model can support a single external display up to 5120x2160 at 60 Hz via Thunderbolt 2. Via HDMI video output, it can support 1080p up to 60 Hz, 3840x2160 at 30 Hz, and 4096x2160 at 24 Hz."

Ok, great, but considering USB-C for this MBP isn't an option, and TB2 input displays are not-so-easy to find, this looks likely I'd be looking for a display with both USB-C (work laptop, surface book clone which does at time have advantages over the MBP :(, and future MBP) and likely DisplayPort...while I'm fuzzy on exactly what the current MBP can output using a TB/mini-DP -> DP adapter to drive a single display... anyone?

These are the pair of displays I've been looking at, although other suggestions are welcome. Any help, thoughts, experiences? (Other than but a new MBP, they're 'great' and so is the Touch Bar that removes the ESC key :-/ )

Note I'd consider the 49" LG or > 38" but not at 1440 vertical resolution. I've had my MBP driving a QHD 27" + another external display before and we entered jet engine mode quickly, so at least this time around looking for one larger but high-res display - if/when I get a new MBP, may consider getting a second one to stack.

Lots of text to parse there, beside the only question. Aint nobody got time for that. Focus on the question.
Are you asking about "THE current MBP" or "YOUR current MBP"?

I have MBP15 mid 2015 with the integrated Intel Iris Pro (MacBookPro11,4) that can run an old 40" 4K monitor (Philips BDM4065) at 3840x2160 (or lower) at 60 Hz via a Mini DP to Displayport-cable.

Since it can drive that resolution the same and all following generations can do it, and much more. Especially if they have discrete graphics.

Asking about my current, thus the model # in the subject line and intro. I'm quite sure the newer MBPs have no issue as they claim IIRC to be able to drive 2 4k displays.

Thanks - think we're good on any of the above then, just wanted to ensure I wasn't SOL on going from 3440x1440 -> 3840x1600.
