Hello
I do not know if this is a forum for apple products only but you are the only computer community I refer to with question.
I got a macbook , and since I am a desktop guy, I decided I can't give up a big screen so I got the Samsung 2220wm. Now I realize this is a cheap monitor for a '22 , I got it for like $250. I did not setup what so ever, I just plugged it in using VGA.
I am not happy with it really, its too bright and I am not sure how to calibrate it. There seems no software for calibration with it. The Whites are just too white, my macbook display kicks its butt aroundn a billion times over. Even my imac '17 display might be better than this.
Here is the major problem. This monitor can NOT display video. Everything else is ok quality, but video is damn bad. I put on a dvd and there is this kid with black sweater and his sweater has all kinds of artifacts of tiny blue, red, and green dots moving around his t-shirts. You can actually see all kinds of blocks making up the video I watch whatever it is. Its not noticeable so much when the video is in a smaller window, but once you go full screen its so bad it actually kills the enjoyment of watching a video. For example the space background used standard on leopard I can to my lower right a chunk of black parts, its not a smooth transition.
I did try a calibration and I got this grey circle in the middle of two levels of black and grey. It says that I should adjust until I can barely see the circle in the middle of a solid back ground. I look at my macbook screen and it is smooth and beautiful with gray circle in the middle. I look at my samsung and no matter how low I got with the brightness on the screen, I still can see half of the block black, and the other half gray, and a gray circle in the middle.
Did I purchase a pad display(this bad?) Am I supposed to do something with it to set it up? Is this normal? I really have no idea what to expect. When I saw it in the store, it was running XP and it looked fine, and still does, but it seems somehow it has a problem with color or video or high definition.
Please help me or refer me to some place that will. I looked up reviews on the display and it usually got a 7/10 (good enough) and a lot of people seem happy with it.
