I've tried using keepvid.com, which lets you save a file as .flv. I'm able to play it using VLC player, but it won't let you skip around in the video, it only works if I play it straight through. I assume it's a bug but I'm not sure.

Anyone know a better method for saving youtube videos?

VLC will let you export the movie to pretty much any format, such as mp4, you will then be able to fast foreward and stop and all that.
