Help! Opened friend's e-mail with spam?

Hello,
I know enough not to open unfamiliar e-mails, but this, I didn't know about...I received an e-mail today from a friend, it had a link and I clicked on it. It opened to a Fat Loss Factor ad and I don't recall if I clicked on anything from there. So, I just bought my iPhone 5 days ago, is this a virus ? What should I do? How can I tell if I now have a virus?

It was just advertising, and there are no viruses or other malware for iOS.
