*HELP* Partitioning and formatting an external hard drive

Hi all,
I am sure a lot of you must have come across this problem.
I am a recent switcher and i have an intel mbp.

I have an external hard drive which is of NTFS format and has all my movies, music and data which i do not want to erase/lose.
I know that we cannot write to NTFS format with OS X, so now i want to create another partition on the external hard drive either HFS or FAT32 so that i can backup my files from OS X to the external WITHOUT ERASING THE CURRENT DATA on that drive.

Is this possible? What tools/apps do you suggest to do so? Is there any Windows app that i can use to do so?

iPartition looks like it will do what you want, or else copy your files to another disk (your MBP internal?) and then reformat and partition your external with Disk Utility

Partition Magic 8 on the Windows side is another good alternative.

Copy the data to another drive, then re-format the external drive and copy the data back. Don't risk losing everything trying to repartition a drive that has been partitioned for NTFS..
