iPhone XR Help--Phone not ringing

My wife's XR phone will not ring and/or can barely hear it ring. I have made sure that the "silent mode" is turned off and that the "silence unknown callers" is turned off as well. I have re-booted it too. Still have the same problem. Any suggestions?

Doubt this suggestion will work but…

Try changing the ringer to some other tone -see if that wakes it up.

I also noticed that if she is holding the phone it will ring but you can barely hear it. When she places the phone say on a table it rings louder.

I had the same issue last week and also couldn’t activate my Call Blocking and Identification apps. I reset my network settings and sim ce then I haven’t had those problems.

Depending on your settings, the ringer volume could be set to a different volume as the speaker volume. This random screenshot I found is from an older version of iOS but it still gets the point across:
