HELP phone won't restore. Got messed up while updating

My phone got messed up while trying to update. Now I'm trying to restore it but it won't let me. Help while updating it just got stuck

its goes thorugh all the steps of restoring...but when it gets to the restoring iphone firmware it keeps thinking and then eventulally i get the error message

if it says 'this phone must be restored' and you're at the window or w/e, just do option+left click on the 'restore' button and manually select the 4.0.1 update. it should be under user/library/itunes/iphone software updates.

i had the same problem btw. if you still have a problem updating to 4.0.1, just manually restore to 4.0

when your iphone is plugged in, and it shows up in itunes, press the 'restore' button while holding down the option key. this will allow you to manually look for and choose the firmware you want to use (ios4.0 or ios4.0.1).

the firmware will be in 'user'/library/itunes/iphone software update

so if you had problems updating to 4.0.1, just restore using 4.0 firmware and i guess try again.

oh i forgot to ask... are you on windows or mac system?

didnt' work. i have a mac. where can i find the 4.0 restore file.

HELP!! I don't know how to use my equipment. why did you even update? there is no point. What, because Apple says there's a new version out lets all run and get it. I hope your phone bricks.

um. ok idk what your problem is. anyway i tried what the poster said, but it didn't work on the mac.
