I've just got a 16 pro and I'm having trouble finding a cable that will work with my monitor. I have a Dell U2412m which has DVI, VGA and Displayport ports, and a usb-c hub with an HDMI port. I have tried a Displayport to HMDI cable and these are apparently not bi-directional so won't send the signal from the Mac to the display.
So question is what cable will be best and give the best resolution, that might also still work when I upgrade the monitor?
Thanks

You could use a dock like this with VGA for now, and HDMI on a newer monitor. Nice to not lose the USB C port if you have a desk/workstation setup with more peripherals, plus picking up other handy ports.

Or for less money you could get just an adapter like this or this....but you may have to buy another with a newer monitor if you want HDMI.

I’d suggest a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.

Exactly. $15 on Amazon. Problem solved.
