help playing audio through tv

i have a Panasonic plasma tv and am trying to connect my macbook via mini display port to HDMI adapter. i dont have a problem displaying video, but i cant seem to get audio to play.

anybody else have this problem?

Only the newest Macbook's (2010) have audio through the mini display port.

If you have something older then you will need an separate cable from the audio out port (plain 3.5mm headphone cable or a mini-optical/coax) from your computer to an audio system (you will need to check if your TV will let you choose audio from another source).
