I had my iPhone 3Gs in my pocket. I didn't drop it. Nothing was in the pocket with the phone. Now it has this crack or dead pixels (see image, bottom right)? It's under the glass so I can't figure it out. Anyone have this issue? Know how it could have happened? Will Apple repair it within a year of purchase and no apple care? Thanks for any info.

Are you jailbroken? If so then your in luck. If not then there isnt much you can do. If your jailbroken, go to Cydia and download Bad Pixel Fixer.
That should fix your problem.

Also..... if it hasnt been a complete year that, then you can purchase Apple Care still and use it:) The bad news is, nothing covers self negligence of your devise. So no, they will not give you a new one unless you pay for a new one. If your lucky and get a hold of a nice worker and you can make a good enough excuse, then they could replace it free for you. But its unlikely because usually they are mean about these things.

You could also restore your devise and see if that fixes the problem.

it looks like your LCD is SOL. That looks a lot like what happen to an LG monitor of mine. Part of it started going out like that and it just spread. By the end of it I had a huge dead spot in the monitor and warrentied it off.

It will grow very quickly. Your LCD in your phone has gone bad.

Wow, so much misinformation. Applecare has nothing to do with it as the phone is under warranty. If there is no sign of neglect then Apple will replace your phone or display for free. Make an appointment and take in into the store. No problem. You could also just call Apple and do it over the phone. :)

This is not an issue, you clearly damaged it ( probably had something in your pocket and sat on it)

you can come here and lie ( or you probably weren't aware ) but he evidence is pretty clear

cracked LCD = pressure point

Apple will fix your phone for $199.00 and it will carry the same warranty as your existing Iphone 3GS ( or 90 days, which ever is longer)

You can't break the LCD with pressure without breaking the glass over it, WTF.
