I'm not sure what mdworker is or what it does but its hoggy up my CPU. I only had uTorrent running and I noticed my CPU sky rocket so I opened Activity Monitor expecting to see uTorrent causing the CPU percentage to rise but to my surprise it this mdworker. I'm curious what this mdworker is all about.

mdworker is one of the background processes for Spotlight.

The issue here I believe is that the torrent file you are downloading is being index for spotlight each time there is a change and as the file is changing lots (due to being a torrent) it is being index a lot.

You can add the folder that you download torrents to to the spotlight privacy pane. System Preferences - Spotlight - Privacy to see if this resolves your issue.

hi guys,

I have the same problem with mdworker, but only since 10.5.7, why this? excluding downloading folders does not help and re-indexing the whole drive neither.

any other suggestions?

thx
