Help Please - no picture or sound after hardware update

i took a plunge and upgraded my 2006 white 24"imac with a 500gb sata and i hooked everything up but now i dont get a picture? i checked to make sure all the connection were in good but all i get is the white led and thats it. no sound or anything.
