Help...PLEASE (photo albums missing)

I am hoping this is a simple problem but have been unable to fix it so far.

All of my photos are on my hard drive but my albums have all disappeared except for the last one I uploaded. I have 5,000 photos now not in albums but on my hard drive and I keep getting an error of: Volumes/My Passport/iPhoto Library/Library.iPhoto

Can anyone help as I have been through so much reading to try to correct this.
