Help! Please read! [Laggy Hotbar]

Hello everyone!
I have just joined this WONDERFUL website...because I am having a bit of a hard time.
I wanted to ask you a question!

My MacBook Pro has been acting a bit weird.
Everything is fine except my hotbar.
It is a bit laggy.
To my eyes, it doesn't look normal.

I actually am in the process of updating my Mac.
Will updating my software fix the problem, or is my Mac dying?

I had this Mac for 2 years now, and I have taken GREAT care of it.
I clean out the junk every weekend.
Here is a photo of how it looks like.

Hi Athena!

Could you describe the problem a bit more?
Is it the keys at the top of they keyboard that are laggy?
For example setting the brightness of screen/keyboard and volume buttons, reacts a bit late?

I don't quite understand what you mean with 'hotbar'
