Help Please: Restart/Shut Down Hangs

Each time I restart or shut down, it gets to the all gray screen and then the little "wait" circle appears and just stays there forever. I end up having to hold down the power button to get the iMac to shut off. Using the latest Lion update.

Any thoughts? Thanks.
