Help please restarting El Capitan

My Macbook Pro froze with several applications open. I had to shut down using the power button. On restarting, the El Capitan starting screen with my own and the Guest User icons appeared but there was no box to enter the passwords beneath the icons. I powered off again using the power button and restarted but the same thing happened. Any ideas to help me out.

I have sorted out my own problem. It was due to my keypad click not working - now fixed!
