i have a late 2012 27' iMac, and i just got a alienware x51 :):)and i want my mac be a display of the X51, so will thunderbolt to VGA works?(TDM)

p.s sorry for my poor english:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

No. 2011+ iMacs only allow TDM through a Thunderbolt connection. Nothing else will work (not even mini-displayport).

You'd only be able to use converters on a 2010 iMac, as they accept mini-Displayport inputs (So you can convert HDMI/DVI from your X51 to mDP). This doesn't work for any newer iMacs though.

Mostly correct. But the simple mDP to DVi adapters are meant to go FROM mDP TO DVi, not the other way around. Going from DVI to mDP requires an active adapter. Around $75-$120 I believe.

Thanks - I always assumed they were electrically compatible in both directions, so glad to have that clarified! :)
