hi all

i have upgraded my hard disk and restored from time machine back up!! the only issue is when i go to my mac hard disk the user directory cannot be seen??

although if i search for it in finder using /User it finds it!!

my question is how can i get the user folder to appear when i go to mac hard driver again?

i see applications / library / system / user guide information / private

no user???? but all my files and and other account info is there

also whats weird is if i go to finder and search for folder user it finds it

Right-click the user folder and select "Show Information" and the see "Location" or whatever it is.

When you search for it and find it, what is shown in the Path Bar (Finder > Menu > View > Show/Hide Path Bar)? What happens if you use Command+UpArrow to jump to the parent folder, and do it again until you reach Macintosh HD?

when i right click and get info it says / and thats it

cant see no directory

and when i go to finder and click go to folder and type /User it jumps straight into the folder and shows me my home folder!!!

is there another way i could search for the folder to get the info u need?

/ means it's located in Macintosh HD, that's where my users folder is located as well.

yeah i know that but when i go to the Macintosh HD its not there to see as usual! i think im gonna have to fresh load!! never seen this before

You can trying running Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.

Something else to help with troubleshooting. From Terminal, type in,
Code:
ls -la /
(those are 2 lowercase L)

This will show if the Users folder's attributes got wonky. Just copy/paste the results in a post.

Try this. Open Terminal (in Utilities) and enter

Code:
sudo chflags nohidden /Users

You can try booting of the OS X dvd, run reset password utility. It will also give you the option to reset the permissions / ACLS on a home folder.
