The link above this won't work to update from 10.6.2 to 10.6.8, but this one will: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Why not just run Software Update?

I have run Software Update several times with no success. I have been to the above link as well and it does not work for my machine - the download icon does not function.

It is currently at 10.6.2 - it has 16GB and a gorgeous 27” display.

The download button works for me. It downloads a "MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg" 1.09 GB file to my Downloads folder. Check where your browser downloads files.

It seems that this Mac is not able to communicate with the Apple site - is there another browser that might allow me to receive the update?
