I brought my old iphone 4 to the apple store to have it replaced due to a defect in the LCD. They gave me a new/refurb replacement with the plastic still on. I don't currently have AT&T service, and so I don't have a SIM to insert to activate.

Is there a safe way to bypass this activation? I want to know what ios version is on this phone, but I can't see anything until I activate.

Thanks.

Thanks, that did the trick. 5.0.1.

Any way to bypass activation without a SIM? Can I use someone else's sim just to bypass?

use redsn0w 9.10b5c to jailbreak, during the process select activate and your phone will be activated and jailbroken

Probably going to use the phone with Straight Talk, so I'll just activate when I receive the SIM.
