Help/recommendations on a network raid drive?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to purchase a networkable external raid drive soon to make my backups easier. I've looked at a few "already put together solutions" such as this one that a friend recommended, but I want to make sure I understand what I'm getting.

If I set up a drive like that to utilize RAID, it will essentially cut the capacity in half right?

Can anyone recommend any other options, or perhaps a piece-it-together option that might be a bit cheaper?
