Help recovering files from my iphone 3g

Long story short I upgraded to FW2.1 using Shift+Restore. I forgot to back up and lost all the pictures taken with the camera. Is there any way to get them back from the iPhone? Is there a way to see the iPhone as a drive under Windows Vista so I can run recovery software like Restorer 2000? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am at Fort McCoy for mobilization and my Verizon wireless internet is reallly weak here so I'm having a hard time looking for recovery solutions.
