Help restoring new iPhone from iPad backup

Hello,

I've just got an iPhone 6 plus and have been using a retina iPad Mini.

I've been trying to set the iPhone up by restoring it from an iTunes backup of the iPad mini but it won't work.

I've tried it several times but although it appears to work it doesn't bring anything across.

Both devices have been updated to iOS 8.1.2

You're not going to be able to use the iPad backup to restore to the iPhone, at least not by any conventional means.

Is there something wrong with setting the the iPhone up as new and just syncing your apps and media normally via iTunes?
