I am trying to restore older versions of an iPhoto library onto my computer (running 10.11.6) from Time Machine without restoring the entire backup from that day. I have googled quite a bit and managed to do it once with one version of the library, essentially by accident, and haven't been able to do it with another version.

What I am actually trying to do: I recently discovered that my boyfriend was having a sexual relationship with a student of his. I am a mandated reporter and need to report him (plus what he's doing is wrong beyond words!). I took screenshots of some Instagram Stories several months ago that raised red flags for me. I convinced myself that I was wrong and deleted them. I want to see if older versions of the iPhoto library might still have some of these pictures. I was able to view individual pictures via Time Machine without restoring the backup, but I wasn't able to view the pictures in iPhoto's "Trash." I was able to find one of the pictures in iPhoto's "Trash" in the September backup I was able to restore, but I'd also like to check the "trash" in the August and October backups, but I can't figure out how.

Thank you for any suggestions. This has been the worst week of my life and I am at my wit's end trying to put together this report of everything I know while processing that someone I loved isn't who I thought he was and is, in fact, a terrible manipulative liar, while still having to face him at work every day and pretend that I don't know.

Open drive
Open Backups.backupdb folder
Find a date you think might be right
Navigate to Macintosh HD > Users > courser > Pictures and open the library there or copy it to your Mac - it'll be a big file.

Disconnect from the internet when you do this.

Bring up Finder. Go to your Pictures folder.

Plug in the TimeMachine drive and bring up Time Machine. Time Machine should open to the Pictures folder.

Navigate Time Machine to date in question. Select the "Photos Library.photoslibrary" item. Restore that. When asked re: replace or copy, choose copy. You will now get the entire Photos library at that date along side the current library.

When you open Photos app, make sure you invoke it with Option-Shift pressed. You will be present a box to select which library to open. Select the restored library. You now will be navigating/working with the backup.

Find a new boyfriend, move on, and forget about it.
