Hi there, I was hoping some one could help me figure this out. I recently had a OSX 10.5.5, 2008 MPB 17" model die. Well I can hear some noise from the drive and theres a led lighting on the front panel. Took it back to my local mac store - they could categorically tell me that it was not the Blackscreen Nvidia problem by attaching a diagnostic device. I'm not 100 percent convinced - i would have thought a better way was to do some DMM pin readings on the offending chip, but who am I to argue with a Mac genius??

Anyways I went and bought another Feb 2011 Macbook pro 13" which is great. Now I need to retrieve data from within apps like stickies, mailbox settings - a whole lot of stuff.

I have removed the drive from the old MBP and have it mounted in a usb dock.

what is the best way to do this??

I tried simply to open the older version of stickies and it came up with an error saying that its an older version of stickies and can't be read on this version.

I also tried making this drive a boot disk - that caused the Mac to have an error - basically the 10.5.5 can't be run on this newer mac.

Anyone have a suggestion of how I can get all my preferences for apps onto this newer machine - will the newer versions of software even accept them??

any help appreciated

Steve
