HELP! ringer volume and alarm volume connection?

I don't want to wake in the middle of the night by a ringing phone, but I'd like to still get to work on time. How do I silence my ringer, but still keep my alarm volume up? My old crappy non-iphone accomplished this. I'll be disappointed if the iphone can't. Is this possible?

Out of the box. It'll work exactly how you want it to.

Uh, yeah it does. Just to double check myself, I set the alarm with the ringer on mute and it went off full blast.

Maybe it has to do with what app you're using. It works as you want in the clock app.

I burned myself with this once too, use the mute switch and not the volume all the way down method.

Why would you not use the mute switch? That's the point of it.

My previous phone supported profiles. I used to keep the phone in silent mode in night and automatically switch to regular mode in the morning.
So called smartphones dont seem to have all the basic features.
